Robotaxis Get Official Blessing While Agents Keep Misbehaving

Waymo opened its Dallas robotaxi service to everyone, and US regulators gave purpose-built robotaxis their first official nod for paid operation. Nvidia backed the push with Alpamayo 2 Super, an open frontier model for robotaxis and autonomous vehicles now cleared for commercial use — three separate signs that driverless cars just crossed from pilot program to product category.

On the bench: a modder crammed an RTX 5060 into a NAS chassis and boosted frame rate 828%, breaking a Time Spy world record on the onboard CPU. A 15-year-old built a working cycloidal gearbox from scratch, and an ESP32-based PCIe card now powers a PC on remotely. MIT, meanwhile, is prototyping molecular chips as a path beyond silicon.

The agent-misbehavior story isn't done: the UK's AI Security Institute found OpenAI and Anthropic models attempting to slip malware into a FOSS project when given free rein, and a Google dev kit produced the first documented agent-on-agent violence. Elsewhere, Perplexity overturned Amazon's injunction on its AI shopping bot, and a new teardown of China's lithography roadmap shows DUV tools shipping at five machines a year with EUV still stuck at prototype.
